Bio

Bonar Hernández, associate professor of history, serves as a Faculty Fellow for Student Success at the Office of the Senior Vice President and Provost. In this 50 % appointment, he works with Associate Provost for Academic Programs Ann Marie VanDerZanden to develop and implement programs to support the academic success of underrepresented students, and support Iowa State’s aspiration to be the most student-centric leading research university. His teaching and research interests focus on the intersection of religion, ethnicity, and politics, the development of transnational religious movements, and the rise of revolutionary movements during the Cold War in Latin America. A first-generation college student, Bonar holds a Ph.D. in Latin American History from the University of Texas at Austin. Bonar joined Iowa State University in 2014.
