Description
Purpose: The Rossmann Manatt Faculty Development Award is designed to recognize a College of Agriculture and Life Sciences or College of Human Sciences tenured faculty member who has demonstrated a truly exceptional level of creativity and productivity in scholarship, teaching, and service, and who shows great promise of continuing such achievement.
Eligibility: Tenured faculty in the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences or College of Human Sciences. The award will alternate between the two colleges, as follows:
- College of Agriculture and Life Sciences (CALS) faculty members may be nominated in even-numbered years, with the award being presented in odd-numbered years.
- College of Human Sciences (CHS) faculty members may be nominated in odd-numbered years, with the award being given in even-numbered years.
Nature of the award: This one-time award ($5,000-10,000 determined by the maximum income available as generated from the endowment) is intended to facilitate faculty development activities. The award period shall begin on July 1 of the year in which they are selected. Funds awarded must be entirely spent within two (2) years following the start of the award period.

Criteria:
Documented evidence of an exceptional level of creativity and productivity in scholarship, teaching, and service, and promise of continuing such achievement. The scholarship will be judged broadly, both in terms of its contribution to the profession and its contribution to a challenging and stimulating educational atmosphere at the university.
The award may be used for funding of supplies, books, journals, equipment, travel, stipends for students and assistants, or any other normally allowed expense that furthers the academic mission of the university and may be reasonably related to the purpose of the endowment.
Responsibilities of awardee: The award recipient will be recognized at a faculty meeting of the appropriate college, and during the year following the announcement of the award, the recipient will make a presentation related to their scholarship, teaching, and/or service in an appropriate university forum. The colleges will host a biennial lunch for the donors, the two most recent recipients, the respective deans, and representatives of the Office of the Senior Vice President and Provost.
Guidelines for submitting nominations for the Rossmann Manatt Faculty Development Award:
1. Completed nomination cover sheet from applicable college:
2. Nomination letter of no more than three (3) pages that includes the following:
- How the nominee's qualifications relate to the award criteria and why the nominee is deserving of the award
- Documented examples of exceptional creativity and productivity in scholarship, teaching, and service, and the promise of continued achievement
- Description of way(s) in which the nominee has contributed to a challenging and stimulating atmosphere at the university
3. A statement written by the nominee of no more than one (1) page describing how the stipend will be used. Nominee must provide a basic budget of proposed expenses in tabular form.
4. Updated curriculum vita of no more than twenty-five (25) pages
5. When the file is prepared, nominators must submit their nomination package in a single PDF to their college by the college deadline.

- For the College of Human Sciences, submit via email by the second Friday in January to chsaward-submit@iastate.edu
6. Each college will name a committee to review nominations and select a recipient based on the award criteria.
